Parental Consent

This text asks for explicit consent, under article 5(1) of Turkey’s Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698 (“KVKK”), from the parent of a BookFlip user under 18 when the child adds the parent’s email address in the app. Details of how data is processed are in the Privacy Policy and the KVKK Information Notice (Turkish).

What you are agreeing to

Your child added your email address as their parent on BookFlip. Until consent is given, your child can use only their own library and personal reading goals and cannot interact with any other user. If you give consent:

1. Social features open. Your child can add friends with a friend code or invite link; see only friends’ lendable shelves and lend and borrow books; send only the preset messages the app offers (there is no free-text chat); and take part in reading challenges with friends.
2. We send you a weekly summary email with your child’s reading statistics (books finished, reading streak, goal progress, badges earned) and a summary of loans. It never includes message content or details identifying your child’s friends.
3. You get a say over your child’s account. You can freeze it or have it permanently deleted with the links in the weekly email, and we will tell you about significant changes to the privacy policy. We will also email you if your child reports a serious safety issue to us, or if your child is restricted, suspended or closed (the other child is never identified).

Data processed for this

• About you: your email address, when you gave consent, the version of the text you approved and the IP address at the time of consent.
• About your child, for social features: friend code, friend requests and friend list, invite links, loans and their dates, preset messages sent and received, progress in challenges, push token. Only friends your child has accepted see, on their friend profile, your child’s nickname, avatar, badges earned, lendable shelf and reading summary (number of books finished, reading streak, this month’s numbers). The reading summary can be turned off in Profile settings (on by default). Notes, page logs, reading goals and the full library are never shown to friends.
• About your child, shown to you: nickname, reading statistics (books finished, reading streak, goal progress, badges) and a summary of loans.

We do not collect real names, schools, addresses, location, phone numbers, photos or contacts. Data is never used for advertising, marketing or profiling, and never sold.

How consent is given

You give consent by pressing “I agree” in the parental consent email we sent you. You can read this text before pressing it. Giving consent is entirely voluntary. Without consent, social features stay switched off. If no consent is given within 7 days, your email address is deleted; your child’s account continues for personal use.

How to withdraw consent

You can withdraw consent at any time, without giving a reason:

• with the “Stop weekly emails” link in the weekly summary email,
• or by emailing info@bookflip.tr.

When consent is withdrawn, social features are switched off, the weekly email stops and your email address is deleted. In the same ways you can also ask for your child’s account to be frozen or permanently deleted with all its data: within 30 days from our servers and no later than 30 days after that from backups. Withdrawal does not affect processing done before it.

Declaration

By pressing “I agree”, I declare that I am the parent or legal guardian of the child who added me as their parent on BookFlip; that I have read the KVKK Information Notice; and that I freely give my explicit consent to the processing of the personal data listed above, as described in this text, so that my child can use BookFlip’s social features, weekly summary emails can be sent to me and I can act on my child’s account as their parent.

Hello,

Your child, nickname {nickname}, added you as their parent on BookFlip, an app for lending and borrowing books among friends.

If you agree, your child can add friends, lend and borrow books, and send preset messages only; until then these features are switched off. We will also email you a weekly summary of your child’s reading statistics and loans, with links to freeze or delete your child’s account. For this we process your child’s friend, loan and preset message records, and your email address and a record of your consent. We never share message content, we do not collect real names, schools, location or photos, and we show no ads.
